Bobby Saenz

There is no doubt that Dr. Bobby Saenz is probably the biggest Spurs fan who is also an eye doctor.

A San Antonio native and Marshall High School alumnus, Dr. Saenz graduated summa cum laude from the University of Houston College of Optometry, where he earned both his Doctor of Optometry degree and Master of Science degree simultaneously. His graduate research focused on patients with optic neuritis associated with Multiple Sclerosis and papilledema, giving him an early passion for ocular disease and complex surgical patient care.

Dr. Saenz has spent his career with one mission (get it?) — helping people see better.

He then completing advanced residency training in refractive surgery and ocular disease in Houston. If you enjoy getting nerdy about eye surgery, lens technology, clinical studies, and published data, Dr. Saenz is absolutely your person.

Throughout his career, Dr. Saenz has lectured nationally and internationally, teaching eye doctors about ocular disease, refractive surgery, and the management of surgical patients. For the past decade, he has also taught with KMK, one of the leading board review companies for national boards. Using his real-world experience and challenging patient cases, he completely redesigned KMK’s Part II ocular disease program to help future doctors better recognize and treat eye disease in clinical practice.

Education and innovation have always been central to Dr. Saenz’s career. He has authored numerous publications, participated in clinical research studies, and served as a principal investigator in multiple clinical trials. He was involved in helping TearCare®, from Sight Sciences, become approved and covered by Medicare for dry eye treatment. After returning home to San Antonio, Dr. Saenz also became one of the first eye doctors in the area to offer IPL therapy for dry eye disease — a treatment now commonly used throughout the city.

Beyond technology and surgery, Dr. Saenz is deeply passionate about mission work and giving back. During school, he participated in six mission trips and continues to support medical mission efforts serving patients in Mexico, Honduras, and Panama. He believes everyone deserves access to better vision and compassionate eye care.

Patients often appreciate Dr. Saenz’s ability to explain complicated eye conditions and surgical options in a relatable, easy-to-understand way. Whether discussing best treatments for cataract surgery, LASIK, EVO ICL, or dry eye treatments, his goal is always the same: helping patients feel comfortable, educated, and confident in their decisions.

When Dr. Saenz is not getting overly excited about the latest eye technology or analyzing published data in the wee hours of the night, he is usually coaching youth sports, cheering on the Spurs, spending time with his three kids and wife, or at home singing “We don't talk about Bruno"
