is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cataract and refractive surgery.
He has expertise in LASIK, PRK, SMILE, refractive lens exchange (RLE), and premium intraocular lenses, including multifocal and EDOF lenses,, helping patients achieve greater independence from glasses.
He earned his undergraduate degree from Duke University on a full ROTC scholarship and his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 2016. He completed his internship and ophthalmology residency at SAMMC/Wilford Hall in San Antonio, where he remains as core faculty and actively trains ophthalmology residents. He also previously served as Medical Director of the Wilford Hall Ophthalmology Clinic, helping advance surgical care and patient outcomes.
He holds academic appointments as Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and Adjunct Assistant Professor at Texas A&M College of Medicine, and has contributed to clinical and basic science research with publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national meetings.
Dr. Heath has performed thousands of cataract and refractive procedures and focuses on delivering precise, personalized visual outcomes tailored to each patient’s goals.
As an active-duty officer, he has participated in multiple humanitarian missions providing surgical eye care to underserved populations in Panama. He grew up in a military family, living across the United States as well as in Japan and Germany. He lives in San Antonio and enjoys running, traveling, hiking, reading, and going on long walks with his dog, Gryff.
